Water, water, everywhere.
Well, not really. It’s in fewer places than we’d like to think it is, nowadays. The drinkable stuff, anyway. BUT THAT’S THE STUFF WE NEED, they said. Yea. Exactly.
Did you know?
You’re supposed to be drinking half your body weight in ounces, every day. In water, people. Not booze, stay with me.
Other things not to ignore:
- Drinking enough water helps you LOSE weight. Unnecessary weight. Besides making you full @ 0 calories, water effects your endocrine system and hormones. There is a hormone (anti-diuretic hormone or ADH) that will hold onto water within your cells if you are not getting it from outside sources (your hand to that bottle to your mouth). Drink enough water, the hormone backs off. The water comes out of the cells, and “water weight” drops. Think “less poofy.” Some people will have 5-10 pounds of water weight. !!
- Peeing is good! Get over it. The walk to the bathroom gets you more steps on your Fitbit.
- Drinking alcohol triggers the “Anti-anti- Diuretic Hormone.” Not a real thing. BUT it means that you are losing water and not replenishing. Hence the wicked headache the next day.
- You need to be consuming even more H20 if you are doing anything detoxifying. EXAMPLES: getting a massage or acupuncture session, sitting in a salt cave, working out, sweating it in a sauna or steam room.
For reasons similar to yours…
- It makes me pee, ALL THE TIME.
- It’s boring.
- If it’s too cold, it hurts my teeth and makes me shiver.
- I don’t know; I don’t want to.
- Does coffee count?
…I wasn’t drinking enough water.
And then I started to – and my life changed. After Mexico, I decided it was time for a detox. The salt, sand, sun, and surf changed my outlook a little. I was rested, happy, and tequila’d out.
I wanted nothing to do with alcohol and everything to do with keeping my skin glowing, my body hydrated, and my energy up (without coffee, or pre-workout, or sleeping 12 hours a day – NO BODY got time for that). A couple days back to real life and my throat was sore, same with my muscles.
So I went back 2 basics.
I drank as much water as I could and I landed just about where I was supposed to. 8 glasses a day (at 8 ounces each). 8×8=64. Half a gallon.
I bought bottles to hand out to my clients after treatments, and a gallon to have around the house that I’d refill with my Brita filter.
What I discovered was:
- It really works. Energy = up. Face = clear. Muscles = recovered.
- I will NOT drink if it’s not convenient** nor room temperature.
- Boring is good. I’ll leave the flavor for the food, it helps me appreciate it more. Water is for rejuvenation. It’s movement, change, fluidity within our bodies. Water is for life.
- My muscles look leannn and I haven’t been hitting the gym that hard.
**Squeeze bottles are my new best friend. I have one in the car, in the house, and bring one to work with me. Don’t give me that wide-mouth steel lip thing. Spill Central.
So help yourself… find out why you’re not getting your daily needs. And then fix it.
